Design an experiment for a robot in a nursing home

As part of a semester long independent study with Professor Jodi Forlizzi, I worked towards creating a study that could be run with the mObi robot in a nursing home. 

Literature Review

To understand the design space, I began by reading academic articles on the aging process, assistive technology, caregivers, elderly care, and nursing homes. I also looked at other experiments that have already been completed in the space of personal and sociable robotics. After reading and summarizing over 60 articles I moved onto the brainstorming experiment design ideas. 

Storyboards

After brainstorming and writing up 10 experiment design studies, I moved onto creating storyboards for 4 of the best ideas. These scenarios were then presented to one of Carnegie Mellon's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute classes for their feedback.
